KPIX TV-5 San Francisco – Insurers Have Until 2014 To Extend Current Health Insurance Plans

Millions of Californians affected after health insurers cancel their current plans have been given a reprieve. Insurers can now extend plans into 2014 under the affordable care act. California insurance commissioner Dave Jones says insurers demanded provisions before the laws went into effect. Jamie Court of Consumer Watchdog has asked Covered California to send out notices that cancellations have another year to make a decision. KPIX San Francisco

KABC TV-7 Los Angeles – Prop 103 Saves California $100 Billion In Insurance Reform

Back in 1984, the California Legislature passed a law requiring drivers to have auto insurance… but didn't limit how much insurers could charge. Predictably, insurers hiked prices by double digits. Voters revolted against the price gouging by passing Prop 103, and the result was billions in savings. Prop 103 has saved California drivers over $100 billion dollars since 1988. That's about $8,125 per California household. In fact, California is the only state in the country where auto insurance rates actually went down over the last 25 years.

KABC TV-7 Los Angeles – Consumer Watchdog Asks Insurance Companies To Extend Cancellations 90 Days

Following a demand by the Department of Insurance, Consumer Watchdog called on all other health insurance companies in California who cancelled approximately 900,000 policies this month to follow suit. Consumer Watchdog also asked Covered California, which has contracts with the insurers, to support the reprieve for beleaguered policyholders.

KABC TV-7 Health Policy Cancellations Anger Consumers

Many people are getting hit with cancellation notices because their existing health care policies don't quality under the new health care law. Large employer plans that cover most workers and their families are unlikely to be affected. One of the president's earliest promises about the health care overhaul was - You can keep your plan if you like it. That's not exactly the case for Natasha Lee. Lee is a freelance photographer who just received a letter saying her current policy is being canceled. A new similar policy she says will cost her three times more.

Almost 10 years to the day after their 10-year-old son, Troy, and 7-year-old daughter, Alana, were killed by an intoxicated driver, Danville residents Bob and Carmen Pack led a gathering of friends, family, and well-wishers to honor the memory of their children and to advocate for legislative changes that they hope will prevent similar tragedies.

KTVU FOX TV-2, San Francisco, CA – The Troy and Alana Pack Foundation Campaign Kickoff

A Danville couple whose two children were struck and killed by a drunk driver a decade ago will honor their memory in Danville this weekend. The memorial for Troy Pack and his younger sister Alana was held from 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Sycamore Valley Elementary School.

The event comes 10 years after the Oct. 26, 2003 deaths of Troy, 10, and Alana, 7. That evening, the siblings were riding their scooter and bicycle along with their mother and two friends in Danville when a gold Mercedes Benz sedan drove onto the sidewalk, running over and killing them.

KCBS TV-2 Los Angeles, CA – Anthem Insurance Rates Skyrocket

Anthem Blue Cross customers are getting letters that state that because of the requirements of Obamacare the company can no longer continue their current Anthem policy. Consumer Watchdog says it's the health insurers' fault, not the law's.
