Trying to stream this video on your mobile device and frustrated by the stalling and stuttering? The FCC may be coming to your emotional rescue.

The agency has launched “Measuring Mobile America,” which is designed to test mobile broadband speeds and hold wireless carriers accountable for the promises they make about performance. This builds on a similar monitoring program aimed at wired or fixed broadband speeds.

Some advocates remain skeptical. Consumer Watchdog says the FCC initiative won’t stop carriers like AT&T from making trumped up claims about blazing 4G speeds.

But FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski claims that experience shows “transparency on broadband speeds drives improvement in broadband speeds.”

Will the FCC measuring make a difference? For those of us accustomed to waiting on our mobile downloads, we’ll just have to wait and see.
