The Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights is sponsoring a contest to generate new ideas for removing waste and profiteering from the health-care system while not cutting back on programs or access to care.

The foundation plans to present the top 100 ideas to Gov. Schwarzenegger and the California legislature and bring the person whose idea has the most cost-saving potential to Sacramento to meet with policymakers.

“It is critical that policymakers think creatively about ways to make our health-care system as efficient and affordable as possible,” said Jerry Flanagan, the foundation’s lead advocate on health-care reform. “We’re recruiting all Californians to help them out.”

Send contest entries via e-mail to [email protected] with the words “contest entry” in the subject line. Each entry should include the entrant’s name, telephone number and city of
residence.

To qualify, each contestant must restrict each suggestion to five sentences or less and provide cost-saving strategies that don’t cut back on health-care programs or limit access to care.

Entries will be posted at http://www.CalHealthConsensus.org as they are received and processed. Entries can also be mailed to: FTCR, 410 Jessie St., 4th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94103.

The deadline for entries is Dec. 19.
