Statefarm is trying to pressure the insurance commissioner to approve a 721 million dollar additional increase in people's homeowner insurance premiums. 

Allstate joins 3 other insurers that have put a pause in their new policies including state farm, stating, it's just too expensive to ensure homes in California.

California's Department of Insurance states "The factors driving state farm's decisions are beyond our control, including climate change, reinsurer costs affecting the entire insurance industry as well as global inflation." but the founder of Consumer Watchdog says the commissioner does have the authority to force State Farm to reserve course.

Harvey Rosenfield says that if State Farm is allowed to get away with it and the insurance commissioner does not enforce the law, other companies will follow suit very quickly, and we'll have a serious consequence in the market.

Harvey Rosenfield states that the entire insurance industry market in California will be deeply destabilized with terrible repercussions for the policyholders and the public.

Harvey Rosenfield, founder of consumer watchdog, and author of prop 103 passed decades ago to protect consumers from surging insurance rates, says he believes there's an ulterior motive. "State Farm submitted $700 million worth of rate increases in the last few weeks; I think they are trying to exact economic pressure as the states largest insurance company on the insurance commissioner Ricardo Lara in order to pass these new higher rates that are unjustified."

Consumer Watchdog's Carmen Balber says policyholders must be asked about their mileage but not that often; insurance companies only technically have to ask every three years.
