Arnold flexes fundraising muscle in Texas

Austin American-Statesman (Texas)

Here’s a hefty lunch tab for two: $1,000 for food, drink and California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Schwarzenegger, a Republican seeking re-election this year against Democrat Phil Angelides and others, plans to seek contributions Thursday at Austin’s Four Seasons Hotel. He’ll stop there for a luncheon before border-state governors meet at the Capitol.

Entry to the lunch runs from $500 per person to $1,000 per couple or political committee to $10,000 for folks seeking to pose with the actor-“govern-ator,” the invitations said.

Proceeds go toward Schwarzenegger’s re-election bid, with no money rippling to Texas candidates.

ArnoldWatch, a project of California’s nonpartisan Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, says Schwarzenegger has corralled more than $97 million in donations since 2003.

Doug Heller of ArnoldWatch called Schwarzenegger “the most prolific fundraiser in California history. He usually doesn’t travel anywhere without holding a fundraiser. He’s very efficient.”
