Consumer Group Releases Doctor E-mails Detailing Strike

National Journals Technology Daily

E-mail messages detailing the organizational efforts of New Jersey doctors participating in last month’s walkout were released by the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights (FTCR), a consumer group opposed to the doctors’ demands.

The New York Times reports that the messages were on an Internet forum used by doctors and included elaborate plans for putting a stop to rising malpractice insurance rates. The foundation did not disclose how it obtained the messages.

In addition to plans of action, the e-mails also included messages that advised physicians to threaten wavering doctors with loss of referrals, the financial mainstay of many private practices.

Another walkout is planned in Connecticut later this month, and on March 11, loads of New York doctors are expected to demonstrate in Albany.
