Blue Shield Cancels Major Rate Increase After Intense Public Scrutiny But New Laws Are Needed, Consumer Watchdog Says

Los Angeles, CA – A Los Angeles Superior Court this morning granted a former Farmers Insurance customer, represented by Consumer Watchdog’s attorneys, the right to challenge portions of a $455 million settlement of a national class action lawsuit against Farmers Group, Inc.

As Nurses, Patients and Consumer Advocates Arrive at Blue Shield Headquarters, Insurance Company Blinks

San Francisco, CA – Just as Blue Shield policyholders, nurses and consumer advocates arrived at Blue Shield's San Francisco headquarters today, the company announced it would delay its massive rate hikes by 60 days. Previously, the company had refused Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones' request for a delay, even as several other insurers agreed to a temporary reprieve.
