Denise Johnson joined our advocacy team following the death of her son Richard Johnson. Richard was diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer. He fought brain cancer and won only to lose his life to a hospital acquired infection. Richard was denied treatment for his infection and hospital staff ceased all communications with Denise. She turned to the Medical Board of California for accountability for her son’s death but found no accountability there.
Following a conversation with a board staff member who laughed at Denise’s story, Denise received a letter that her complaint had been dismissed. Denise was moved to write a book titled ‘Nonie’s Star’ about her son’s story, but she felt the need to do more in honor of her son. She joined our team and has testified before medical board meetings and for sunset review. Denise focuses her advocacy on medical board reform. She resides in Tracy.
