The Fair
Political Practices Commission agreed to investigate allegations raised
by Consumer Watchdog, the Santa Monica-based group formally known as
the Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights.

Consumer
Watchdog filed a complaint against Nunez in January. It suggested that
the Los Angeles Democrat had taken advantage of loopholes or had
violated campaign contribution limits in raising the money for special
events. Among the events was one titled Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez’s
Toy Drive.

Nunez’s fundraising was done through a defunct
nonprofit organization. Consumer Watchdog says it may have violated
campaign donation limits because the events benefited Nunez
politically.

A spokesman for Nunez, Steve Maviglio, predicted the FPPC would find that Nunez had done nothing wrong.
