Covered California Board Members Being Pressured to Release Emails

Published on

There's pressure on California's health insurance exchange to go public with board members' communications. But the board is using a technicality to deny the request.

The group Consumer Watchdog is still trying force Covered California to release emails exchanged between the health exchange's board members and insurance companies as part of a public records request.

However, published reports say the board members don't have official exchange email accounts; they're all personal accounts, so Covered California lawyers say any emails sent or received are personal and don't have to be made public.

Some are wondering if this means there's something you're not being told.

Consumer Watchdog is backing a November ballot initiative giving the state insurance commissioner control over rates, which is something Covered California officials oppose.
