Classic Arnold

Published on

After victory at the polls on
Tuesday, Governor Schwarzenegger promised California action and got
straight to it. This weekend, the governor will preside over the Arnold
Classic, a Columbus, Ohio body-building extravaganza. Though his
competitive weight-lifting days are over, California’s Collectinator is
likely to come out ahead in the new event he introduced this year, the
Mr. Fundraiser competition. Thus far, Arnold is the only competitor,
with a $2,500 to $25,000-per-person fundraiser scheduled.
Schwarzenegger staffers estimate he will raise $200,000-300,000 at the
event, double or triple the prize for lifting the heaviest barbell at
the Arnold Classic.

Californians have heard the governor’s office insist for weeks that
raising $100,000 a day in campaign contributions was just Arnold doing
his job — passing the "Recovery Bond" in order put California’s fiscal
house in order. ArnoldWatch doesn’t think the Gov should be let off the
hook for breaking his promise to sweep the special interests out of
Sacramento. But, when the initiative campaign ended, we thought we
might have finally seen the Champion’s retirement from this event.

ArnoldWatchers should call the Fundraisernator and tell him to "Puh-leeze Stop Fundraising."
