TEMECULA, CA — RePlanet Buyback Center, a network of locations that paid cash for cans and bottles, terminated all employees and closed its 284 recycling sites throughout California, including the ones in Temecula, according to a company statement.

Company officials cited a reduction in state fees, the depressed pricing of recycled aluminum and PET plastic, rising operating costs, minimum wage increases, plus health and workers compensation insurance, as factors for the shutdown, calling the business "no longer sustainable."

Temecula's RePlanet locations were located outside the following grocery stores:

  • Vons at 29530 Rancho California Rd
  • Albertsons at 30530 Rancho California Rd
  • Food 4 Less at 26419 Ynez Rd
  • Stater Bros. at31813 Hwy 79 S
  • Ralphs at 33293 Temecula Pkwy

RePlanet said it will file for Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors and will liquidate its assets.

Residents who redeemed cans and bottles for cash with rePlanet still have other options in the area. Click here to find other centers and to read more on recycling in California.
