It was all aboard for less costly drugs when the RX Express stopped in the Capital Region.
The train started its journey in Miami, Florida, and stopped at the Rensselaer Train Station. It’s traveling across the East Coast to pick up senior citizens and take them to Toronto, Canada, in order to buy lower cost prescription drugs.
The Legislative Director of the New York Public Interest Research Group said seniors save so much because the Canadian government buys prescription drugs in bulk.
Blair Horner said, “These American citizens, like so many others, are going to Canada to save money. They can save as much as 50, maybe 80, maybe 100 percent on the cost of their prescription drugs.”
Organizers of a railroad publicity tour accused Amtrak of barring the media from speaking to them on the platform when stopping in upstate New York, including Rensselaer. Amtrak denied the charges, saying it simply tried to enforce security rules and keep the trains running on time.
The RX Express was organized by the California based Foundation for Consumer and Taxpayer Rights.
