Double Victory: The Paint Boycott Worked

Published on

Yesterday was a big day for consumer justice!

Just 24 hours after we launched the #BoycottSherwinWilliams boycott, the paint company decided to pull its deceptive ballot initiative to erase its liability for poisoning families with lead in its paint.

Add that victory to the signing of yesterday’s online California consumer privacy law and June 28th 2018 will go down in history as a monumental day for consumer rights.

We at Consumer Watchdog thank everyone who spread the word about the boycott, in particular our Rage For Justice Awardees Jane O’Meara Sanders, RoseAnn DeMoro, and Robert Greenwald, and Ralph Nader. The effort shows that a few people can make a big difference in a short time.

The company and its CEO obviously felt the pressure.  It got nothing from the legislature in exchange for the withdrawal of the ballot measure except an agreement to work together.

You can watch the KPIX-TV story about the victory here.

PS: You can learn more about both victories from our weekly podcast interview with syndicated talk show host Norm Goldman, taped yesterday before we knew the outcomes.
